Health and Safety in the Workplace – Lord Mayor launches series of free seminars to Senior Managers and Directors
In an economy where operating budgets are tight Health & Safety in the Workplace can be forgotten about or drop on the list of priorities and in turn lead to serious and costly prosecutions.Leading Barrister of Law, Shay Fleming, spoke about recent Health & Safety case law and highlighted how most if not all prosecutions could have been avoided had the companies taken the following simple steps:
- Completed & Maintained Risk Assessments
- Written a Safety Statement
- Provided Basic Awareness Training
- Appointed a Competent Safety Advisor
- Implemented a Health & Safety Management System
The Lord Mayor of Dublin officially opened the seminar saying that “It is encouraging to see so many business organisations represented and participating in this learning event and ultimately hopes that it helps improve their business model and Health & Safety awareness in 2010”.
The Seminar was attended by Senior Managers and Directors from leading companies across the country including; Diageo, An Post, Bus Eireann, Quinn Healthcare and many more.
Michael Kennedy, TD, who was also in attendance made the following statement “Often times Health & Safety in the workplace is ignored or forgotten about until an accident actually happens, which consequently damages the company both legally and financially. Today’s presentation illustrated the real benefits of taking preventative action and the “Pay as you Learn” option provides an affordable and realistic solution to a very real problem”.
